National Post (Canada), "Sticky Ford
throttle dangers; also cold weather may damage older Ford Explorers'
suspension" |
Handling
problems caused by cold weather are behind a decision by Ford to recall
more than 25,500 older-model Explorers (1997 Ford Explorer). The recall
is among eight involving more than 91,000 Ford cars
and trucks. Ford agreed to repair 1995 to 1997
models of its top-selling sport-utility after
it learned that a front stabilizer bar link stud
can fracture in low temperatures.
This can cause the
vehicle to lean or the steering to become loose. If the stud breaks at speeds
greater than 80 km/h, the SUV can wander or sway. Dealers will install new 10-millimeter
stabilizer bar links. A further 9,600 Explorers from 1997 to 1998 are being recalled
because of a sticking throttle assembly. Transport Canada says the assembly can
collect dirt and oil, and jam in the closed position. Ford mechanics are being
advised to replace the assembly. |
