injured in SUV rollover wins $7M verdict against
Mitsubishi" |
A
former Furman University soccer player has won
a $7 million verdict against Mitsubishi Motors
over a sport utility vehicle that rolled when the
driver swerved to avoid a slow-moving truck.
The plaintiff was
injured while riding in the front seat of a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport
LS. The SUV flipped several times during
an accident-avoidance maneuver. He alleged that the vehicle was defective
in design and negligently tested.
A federal jury in
Greenville agreed and awarded the plaintiff $7 million in actual damages on
March 16. Punitives were ruled out before
the jury got the case.
One of the plaintiff's
attorneys said the Montero Sport has been the subject of other
products liability litigation elsewhere in
the country. |
