Defective Tires: City News Service, "Bridgestone Tire Recall"
|
Bridgestone Firestone today renewed its recall of defective tires made for the Ford Explorer and other SUVS in the late 1990s, as two more lawsuits were filed against the company in Los Angeles.
The two federal lawsuits, which seek class-action status, call for a criminal investigation into the tire maker's actions related to tires from its Wilderness, ATX and Firehawk series.
In 2000, Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC recalled 6.5 million tires from the Wilderness and ATX series, in light of tire separations problems linked to rollover accidents and deaths.
Bridgestone Firestone said it will ask owners to return about 200,000 recalled tires from the Wilderness and ATX series that may still be in use. The company is urging owners to check spare tires, which some people may not have thought to replace.
