Tire Failure: The Detroit News, "Tire Makers Try to Protect Safety History Data"
|
A federal judge on Monday spurned a request from tire makers who wanted a ban on releasing detailed information about tires and their safety history.
Tire makers aren't eager to see customer complaints and warranty data made public because the information could encourage attorneys to file a slew of lawsuits -- as happened when Firestone recalled millions of tires in the wake of rollover crash deaths linked to faulty tires primarily on Ford Explorer sport utility vehicles.
Last month, Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC agreed to make a renewed effort to get off the road thousands of recalled tires that may still be in service.
