Arizona Daily Star, "Tire
Treads Separate, Three die in SUV rollover crash" |
Three people were killed and three others
were injured in a rollover crash on Interstate 10 near the Cochise-Pima
county line Monday. All of the deceased and injured are from Tucson,
said Officer Jim Oien, a Department of Public Safety spokesman. They
are all brothers and cousins who work together.
The accident
happened at 3:53 p.m. when tire treads separated on a westbound silver
2001 Chevrolet Suburban, he said. As the SUV was passing a tractor-trailer,
the driver lost control and rolled the vehicle several times before it
came to a rest on the right shoulder of the road, upside down, Oien said.
During the rollover, one of the wheels broke off and struck another vehicle.
The people inside -- a married couple from St. David -- were
not injured. |
