Volkswagen Passat Fire Danger Investigation

The National Highway Traffic Safety Agency (NHTSA) has opened an official investigation into 2000-2003 model Volkswagen Passats over concerns of spontaneous engine or passenger compartment fires as a result of ignition coil failure. As of September 28, 2007, there have been 78 known fires, 14,850 warranty claims, and 2 reported injuries related to these ignition coil failures in Passats. There are over 345,000 VW Passat vehicles on the road today.
